KIHIKIHI

Kiihikihi is a small rural settlement located four minutes from Te Awamutu. It is one of the few towns left where you can go for a walk and see sheep and horses grazing, as well as lush countryside. It offers the convenience of everything you need right at your door with quaint, rural fringe living. A large sculpture of a cicada stands at the northern entrance to Kihikihi; its name is derived from the sound made by the insect. Kihikihi is a Maori word that means “cicada”. In addition, you’ll find the highly popular Te Awamutu Space Station, a historic house, and even an old jail (not in use, of course!)
